Print Three months into his tenure as secretary of state, Rex Tillerson alarmed veteran diplomats with remarks that sounded like a potential shift in American foreign policy: The comment, at a gathering of State Department employees, provoked an outcry among former U. You can unsubscribe at any time. It also seems to foreshadow President Donald Trump’s approach to the complex politics of human rights overseas. During his May visit to Saudi Arabia, and while hosting the leaders of Egypt and Turkey at the White House, Trump did not publicly press the leaders of those countries on their authoritarian policies. In relation to our competitors, there is far less of a dilemma. And this is not only because of moral concern for practices inside those countries. It is also because pressing those regimes on human rights is one way to impose costs, apply counter-pressure, and regain the initiative from them strategically.
On the face, this is not particularly offensive if the class exists primarily within the AMYA. But if 99 percent of class boat owners are not AMYA members, and the class specification is approved by a multi-country class organization — then this practice is divisive. As we all know, there are enough challenges to growing and maintaining an RC sailboat class. It is confusing to newcomers and unnecessarily thumbs-a-nose to larger class organizations.
In the past, AMYA members who own one of these two large classes have not attempted to change the class specifications within AMYA, even though they could.

Invention[ edit ] The first lawn mower was invented by Edwin Budding in in Thrupp , just outside Stroud , in Gloucestershire , England. Budding’s mower was designed primarily to cut the grass on sports grounds and extensive gardens, as a superior alternative to the scythe , and was granted a British patent on August 31, The mower was pushed from behind. Cast-iron gear wheels transmitted power from the rear roller to the cutting cylinder, allowing the rear roller to drive the knives on the cutting cylinder; the ratio was Another roller placed between the cutting cylinder and the main or land roller could be raised or lowered to alter the height of cut.
The grass clippings were hurled forward into a tray-like box. It was soon realized, however, that an extra handle was needed in front to help pull the machine along. Overall, these machines were remarkably similar to modern mowers. Without patent,[ clarification needed ] Budding and Ferrabee were shrewd enough to allow other companies to build copies of their mower under license, the most successful of these being Ransomes of Ipswich, which began making mowers as early as This led to the codification of modern rules for many sports, including for football , lawn bowls , lawn tennis and others.

The views in this post do not necessarily reflect the views of SSPH! We used friction to our advantage when belaying or surging, and we reduced friction as much as possible when hauling or striking sail. It was aboard these big boats that I was first introduced to Jan Adkins. Simple forces applied intelligently should carry the day. This is no snub of wile or cleverness or inventiveness, only a caution against dissipating your efforts in the bother and friction of complication.

Got a fishing question? That’s what we’re here for. You’re expecting Winnie to turn over soon? And after that no fish? I always thought they kept their feed bag on until ice hits. Here’s a link to the original comment. The peak of activity is occurring right now as is always the case. Pre-turnover is the most active feeding period of the fall, but post-turnover doesn’t stop the fish from feeding, it just signals a change in how you approach catching them i.
We will find a productive places to fish, but after the surface temperatures dip into the lower 50 degree range, surface water sinks to the bottom and warmer watrer rises to the top. This reminds me of the old coffee pot on the stove as it just starts to perk. The affect of this turnover is that now all of the water in the lake is equally Oxygenated and becomes similar in temperature. Fish that were forced to inhabit the shallows when deep water became un-inhabitable during late summer are now free to roam until they locate preferred structure and or bait supplies.
When turnover occurs and the large schools of fish seem to disappear, we look for lakes that either haven’t turned yet or in some cases, lakes that never turnover i.
Safe and sane guidelines for the beginner and a review for the experienced: Balance your weight further outboard as the boat begins to tip or heel over with the wind in the sails. Tuck one foot under the hiking strap for balance. Use your hand that is forward to hold and control the mainsheet. Use your hand that is aft to steer. Pull the tiller towards you to turn away from the wind.

Sheet-to-Tiller Self Steering This page describes a simple, inexpensive way to make a sailboat steer itself using wind power. It was inspired by a posting by Al Gunther in the newsgroup rec. The following text and photos are courtesy of Al. Overview Sheet-to-tiller steering capitalizes on the simple principle that the same forces that cause a sailboat to go off course, are used to steer in a counteracting direction to keep it on it’s desired course.

Other functions[ edit ] In some communities a fire apparatus, often a paramedic engine, will be used to carry first responder firefighters, paramedics or EMTs to medical emergencies because of their faster response times due to forward staging in the city. Design and construction[ edit ] National Forests Office France fire engine with roll-over protection structure The design and construction of fire engines focuses greatly on the use of both active and passive warnings.
Passive visual warnings involve the use of high contrast patterns to increase the noticeability of the vehicle. These types of warnings are often seen on older vehicles and those in developing countries. Vehicles will also often have these reflectors arranged in a chevron pattern along with the words fire or rescue. These flash to attract the attention of other drivers as the fire truck approaches, or to provide warning to drivers approaching a parked fire truck in a dangerous position on the road.
While the fire truck is headed towards the scene, the lights are always accompanied by loud audible warnings such as sirens and air horns. One of the simplest forms of hand tub type fire engines, engraving from the mid 17th century in Germany An early device used to squirt water onto a fire was known as a squirt or fire syringe. Hand squirts and hand pumps are noted before Ctesibius of Alexandria invented the first fire pump around the 2nd century B. The fire pump was reinvented in Europe during the 16th century, reportedly used in Augsburg in and Nuremberg in Colonial laws in America required each house to have a bucket of water on the front stoop in preparation for fires at night.

These are the basic specifications. The full standards include additional specifications on dimensions and geometry. Seems like a great idea! Just back up to any implement, click, click, and drive away! What I discovered is that many of my implements would not attach to the Quick Hitch. Removing the Quick Hitch to use those implements just added more work and busted knuckles. The only way any of the Quick Hitch devices will work as advertised, is if all your implements will easily attach to it.

This required a change in the chain wheel on the Lofrans windlass. In the United States, a tiller truck, also known as a tractor-drawn aerial, tiller ladder, or hook-and-ladder truck, is a specialized turntable ladder mounted on a semi-trailer a commercial semi, the trailer and tractor are permanently combined and special tools are required to separate them.
It does not take much to starat bending or flexing this so called hitch mount, and I would have to believe that that extension as in the first image would put a ot of stress on the hitch. One time I was dead set on converting ll my hitches to ball type, but the biggest obstacle I ran into was getting the coupler portions in sizes that would fit various towed items tongue widths, without having to drastically modify the tongues with shims etc to fit the couplers.
Its also easy to overload them instead of just having the hitch pin type tongue top section start to bend a bit when overloaded, you have a tendancy to not take notice sometimes. Yo know how it is, just a few more shovel fulls or a few more rocks should be OK, and thats all it takes to reach or exceed that max limit. Its not hard to raise a ball up to sufficient height. All kinds of methods can be used. I have an adapter made out of a regular automotive type tube hitch that fastens to the bottom of the rear pin type hitch using existing tractor frameholes and allows me to use a hi lift ball on a high lift receiver tube.
It also picks up additonal mount holes on the tractors frame. Takes about 5 minutes to install or remove if needed.

If you do it yourself, you feel it in the lower back and arms; if you have it done professionally, you feel it in your wallet. Either way it is costly.
I don’t have a problem with that because I use the 3ph quick attach, it just lifts up under the implement pins. I used a piece of tree limb yesterday until my wife showed up and helped me.
