I’m a veritably decorated veteran of the TF2 item multiverse. I’ve seen my circle and the wider esports community slowly dissolve away from the game as more and more joke-gimmick updates get released People are lapping up this new crap, even though it adds nothing more to the game except for a sideways distraction. It’s true that hats and weapons haven’t affected TF2 fundamentally, but when a game developer completely ignores the core game concepts for so long, and only seems interested in introducing more cash-spinning extraneous features No new decent maps, no support, no fixes, no fresh lease of life for the actual 5CP element.
Besides pubplay is now an arduous chore, if you want a ‘decent’ game experience. So many weapons and so many random items on every class just adds to the game’s innate complexity: TF2 at Beta after the Sticky fixes was pretty much the closest thing to a perfectly-balanced team shooter that PC gaming has ever seen; all the pieces just fit, like a chess-set.

I had wrongly assumed the price would drop when more of them became available during Smissmas this year. Unfortunately, all the new festives suck. They’re just the regular weapon skins with the lights strapped to them with nothing creative done with them.

As I said they have access to their MvM upgrade not that they start out with their maxed upgrades, it’ll have to be one helluva long game of both sides doing nothing for Scout to max out any one upgrade tier, or him getting a monstrous number of kills. As soon as the Mercs become aware of this, they’re going to get Engie, God Of Camping, and set up a dedicated sentry nests that may take a while to crack since the Overwatch have pretty much zero experience in breaking nests.
Overwatch has no equivalent to those moves, and will struggle taking down a proper Engineer turtle. Even if the nest only lasts 10 minutes, that means all the Mercs get cash, enough to get them lots of upgrades. And don’t underestimate how fast Engies can set up nests either. If we assume the vanilla TF2 Mercs represent the absolute best of their class, then we can use feats of competitive Engies setting up competent nests in only a minute or two.
We also have a feat in Expiration Date of an Engie finishing up a sentry in less then a minute of being warned of a giant bread monster.

Others of you found it too soft. A lot of you thought it was just right. This is where our story diverges from that true crime drama, because we’ve sidestepped the issue by adding more Tours of Duty to MvM mode.

The duct maze was an absolute waste of time and was so bad that people called a vote to change to a standard mvm map. The path to the exit should be obvious, such as maybe marking a path down the duct to the exit. While the elevator section was about minutes of fun, the duct maze was 1 hour of absolute misery and overall makes this map garbage. The punishment for not getting to the exit path, which was just a hole in the middle of a drop, was too severe – it makes the player go through the entire freaking maze all over again.
Nobody had fun, and I wonder how you thought that would be enjoyable to anyone. I would never want to play this map again after doing it once. The elevator part I’d play, and then quit the server after that part is done, or call a vote to move to the next episode.

Given the problems casual matchmaking launched with, it replacing something which did work is a bit of a bummer. TF2 still has a server browser so people can manually find a server which meets their needs but quickplay was certainly easier.
Hopefully casual matchmaking will be up to scratch soon.

Yeah, decided I don’t want to play with any randoms because I have had very bad luck with them in ths past. I don’t think there’s any specialized tips I can think of for any class but engie. Seems like putting your sentry by the back ramp so that it covers a bit of the main spawn and the stairs which bots come down from the catwalk works well.
Putting the dispenser behind the horizontal canister is a great spot for your buddies.

I guess most people had already heard that the strongboxes would just have cosmetics, and I guess they’re not horrible overall. The Snake bandana for Spy is pretty great, and it’s better than nothing. Now let’s get to the good stuff. I honestly didn’t know if they were going to add more killstreak kits, so I was amazed when I saw that they added pans.
Unfortunately I don’t have a killstreak pan yet since I’m focusing on my sniper rifle, but I’ll get one eventually. Everyone else is also thinking the same thing, so they’ll probably stay expensive for a while, but oh well. You gotta do what you gotta do. They also added the AWPer Hand, but oh well. I can deal with them existing as long as we have pans. I was happy to see that they actually changed some weapons as well.
In my opinion it’s better to change weapons and make more viable before adding others.
